Computers and Displays: Just a few of my favorite pieces

    https://www.reddit.com/r/lego/s/poqpn2N6AL

Growing up Space was my favorite Lego theme. Spaceships with lots of computers. The more computers and controllers the better 😬🤓

I prefer printed pieces, but quality stickers have grown on me.  This is a few of my computers.

Mercedes-AMG Project One: Pirelli PZERO - Pirelli Cinturato

    https://www.reddit.com/r/SpeedChampions/s/k9Jmb8qEpa

The Mercedes-AMG ONE is a limited-production, plug-in hybrid sports car that uses Formula One-derived technology. It has a top speed of 352 km/h and can go from 0–200 km/h in 7 seconds and 0–300 km/h in 15.6 seconds.

F1 wheels off: Can’t go fast without the proper tires

    https://www.reddit.com/r/lego/s/1GhXBH0KJ5

Track ready: Pirelli PZERO - Pirelli Cinturato

Since 2022, tires have a wider working range than their 13-inch predecessors, improving the warm-up phase, as a result, overheating is limited, and degradation is reduced. However, innovation never stops: in 2023, a new C1 compound has been created. Pirelli provides three different compounds of slick tire, as well as the intermediate and full-wet tire, for teams to utilise over a race weekend. There are six slick compounds within the range, numbered from zero to five from hardest to softest. These are known as C0 to C5, with the ‘C’ standing for ‘compound’.

    FULL WET BLUE

The full wet tires are the most effective for heavy rain, capable of dispersing impressive quantities of water. But if it rains heavily, visibility rather than grip causes issues, leading to race stoppages on occasions. The profile delivers increased resistance to aquaplaning, which gives the tire more grip in heavy rain.

All three use the same engine:

    Blade Making Basics: Handles 101 - Built-in-Brick

    https://www.reddit.com/r/lego/s/vWKK1ZSKbv

There are many methods for building blade handles out of Lego brick. Over the years I have developed a combination of techniques for making handles and blades that can be easily customized once you know how to build that base structure. It’s most important to have a strong core and handle that will hold under stress from torque when swing it.

I like this method of sword/knife handle because it looks similar to a Japanese Katana in how it breaks with pieces being held in place with an end cap. This adds to the simulation of it being like a real sword. With simple modification other components could be added such as a ferrule, spacers, a peg/rivet, or lanyard hole.

    Guard - Handle - Pommel

I have included a basic build guide on how to make the handle. Unfortunately the pictures are not perfect, but should get the job done. In the future I’ll work on image angle and order.

For this example I have taken a, prototype sword using this handle, apart and rebuilt it to be similar in size to the knife that I had previously posted using the same handle style. Along with step instructions for base components.

** I have made hundreds of swords, saber, knife like MOC. I chose not to just make regular sword because I was going for a display art effect. Lots of other builders have already made excellent replicas of real swords. The draw back to most of those builds, you can’t swing them around without it falling apart.  All the weapons I make can be swung around.  The next part came the Royal Sword Ship RSS -  I wanted a way to incorporate a minifigure 🤓😬

    Photography: Classic Pentax K1000

    https://www.reddit.com/r/AmateurPhotography/s/pW6uGKZXKe

I have always enjoyed being a photographer way more than being the subject. At first I used a combination of classic automatic and disposable cameras of the 80’s 90’s, but in 1992 my uncle gave me my first real camera the Pentax K1000. That would send me on a photographic journey that has been life long.

I would take hundred of photos with this Pentax camera maybe 600-700 that were developed. That 20+ rolls of film. Development would become less expensive, but I remember paying $7-8 for back Kodak T-Max Film 24 or 36 exp.  Not really knowing how good the shots were, it would cost about $15 to get development. Then you have to select the ones you like and have the printed larger. This would quickly get expensive.

In 2003 I would get my first digital camera the Nikon Coolpix 4300, I believe 3-4 MP. Now I could take as many pictures I wanted without buying film and printing individual images had become way more reasonable. I would take thousands of images before I would get a new digital camera about a year later. My next camera would be the Fuji Finpix S 7000 6.3 MP (12.3 MP interpolated). I would take thousands more before eventually moving to my iPhone as my main camera where I have taken over 30,000 pictures and videos.

Tri-Level Display - Evolution of a Speed Champions Stage

Originally I constructed a single level display with a range of background options to stage Lego Speed Champion to be photographed. Eventually the stage grew to allow for multiple models, but felt crowded. That is when I up graded to the new Tri-Level Display.

The foundation was started with a White Baseplate 32x32-stud 11026 Dark Gray Base Plate 16x32-stud

Then I build an outline foundation with three separate levels. Next covered them with road plates for LEGO® City Road Plates set 60304. Next I looked at some of the design features from the old stage to include or build on.

Eventually I would work on floor patterns and color combinations that worked with the pieces that I had. Once the back wall was established I worked my way out keeping a sense of cemetery with both side walls. Even though the two wall are made with different pieces I use color and shape to creat lines of consistency.

Making large MOC builds can be challenging to have all the correct pieces on had. When I am working an idea, sometimes I will places other pieces in as temporary substitute, so I can move forward that idea. Sometimes substitutes become the new idea.

In this new model same as in the old, I wanted a way to customize it quickly for different models placed on the display. You can see the white trim around the floor and the color on the walls are all strategically placed studs for holding these elements.

For examples of the earlier versions:

This is an updated to my previous post about the building techniques used to make a display to video and photograph Speed Champion models.

Previously I was using a single wall setup and changing the patterns for different setups, but now I have created a dual wall setup combining these patterns.

I have included images of the different components so you can see how it is built. There are also sample patterns showing brick selection process.

How did you make the background/garage look superb?! - Speed Champions display stage

    I was asked

How did you make the background/garage look superb?!

At first I thought this was a question about the lighting, but actually they were asking about the look and design of the actual build. I figured other people might also be interested in my build style. Show I’ll post response here.

This was built as a stage for me to take video and photos. I wanted something that had a semi realistic look and feel. To achieve this I made an arrangement of different liner and block patters mixing with bricks of different texture and shades. Using light and dark bricks to help give visual depth.

Since I wanted to easily change up the patter to use in different photo setups I came up with a set of patterns that I could quickly change to customize the set. You can see in the image I provided that I also included some studs to add color panels to match the cars or brand.

I have included several example images to show variations. I hope this helps explain the build. Feel free to ask questions.
